Lovely little dress

Though I have a young gentlemen, I can't help but love adorable little lady attire. The back of this dress is so simple and perfect for a summer soirée! I am going to attempt this dress for a sweetie pie and maybe something sassy for yours truly!

Seen any great dresses if only they were made for adults??

Squash bug eggs

Here's a little of whats been happening this week in the garden..my pictures below are of squash bug eggs on my lovely egg gourd leaves... Scrap those bad boys off because once those "stink bugs" hatch they will suck the life out of your vine crops (esp squash, pumpkin and melon, some of my faves)..

Garden Prep- Yard to food :)

With this new home came about .79 of an acre which is a great place for me to start doing some natural "old-fashioned" gardening :) .. I hesitate to say Organic only because my neighbors have brought more of my attention to the fact that what I am doing is just good "old-fashioned" gardening.. a lost art to many who enjoy the pesticide world.. I however have enjoyed learning about companion planting and other ways to attract beneficial insects :).. Organic has become that many good folks don't understand or turn their heads at before understanding it's a fancy (expensive) way of labeling food products without chemicals.. yes there is more to it and I try to buy Organic when I am not growing my own food... Anyways.. I have been away from the blog again because I have a LOT of work with the home..

Task to prepare to grow :)

Kill the "yard" without the use of chemicals..sheet mulching.. some straw.. and probably a lot of tarp

What I am going to try is the tarp.. I have a lot of great things coming up but I also have quite a few big bushy Johnson Grass patches (which I will hand pull because my mom says that may be the best way)

I had hoped to do more of a sheet-mulching method early on.. but with money tight with all the other upgrades in the home, the tarp seems like It will do the job and I will sheet mulch in the fall.
I keep newspaper and cardboard for that purpose and then I will put organic matter and mulch on top.. the reason this has been halted is because I wanted to use Wood Chips as mulch but my significant other is HIGHLY allergic to Poison Ivy and I have heard tell that sometimes Poison Ivy gets chopped up into the woodchips..

Anyways this was a long ramble.. but I just wanted to fill in the missing blog days with what I've been doing and thinking about as I try to patiently wait to plant in the fall :) .. My side gardens however are looking great and are becoming quite inspirational.

Saturday Search: Linen Cupboard

Linen Cupboard (linen press).. that is what I will be searching for this Saturday!

With a great old house come's not a great amount of closets.. but honestly I prefer a coat closet and everything else should have it's place on the wall or on a piece.. This is why I love old pieces so much because they actually had a purpose and were used for that purpose.. so here are some pictures of what I am imagining I would like :)

I love this great kelly green linen cupboard.. it's open and it has a really great paper/fabric detail and the pulls on that bottom drawer are great! (image via Design Sponge)

Here is another great linen closet.. though I am hoping for one with glass doors.. I could always take off the doors but I love this cupboard and the drawer on top.. great minty green color (Image via Rusty Hinges Blog)

And the hunt begins!

I will scour yard sales/ the flea market/auctions and thrift stores until I find what I need.. and I will be hopeful for a weekend find!

What are you searching for this weekend?

Pondering about a fridge

The house I just bought was built in 1910.. it has white appliance's which half of them I don't use.. and the ones I do use.. well I just don't like the look.. I have been considering more of an old vintage fridge with nice curved lines.. I don't want the kitchen to look retro but I do want it to keep an old charming feel without looking kitschy..  Here are some images that I am loving and I even like the idea of a possibly DIY update to the old one.. but I do hesitate..

-- I love how simple this one is and what a great color! This may be a better fit for a coastal getaway home-- (*not sure to whom this image belongs to.. so feel free to message me.. Love the fridge!)

I love this! I wouldn't do pink in my house.. but for a cottage retreat yes! I love the old stove as well! I could imagine a fridge like this in a glossy white (Image via Apartment Therapy)

This is a great fridge! It has nice strong wood grain and the hardware to add a masculine feel to what I hope will become a relaxing space for enjoying good food and good people :) (1)

The big thing to consider at this point is --
1. Old vs. New (energy/costs.. etc)
2.Where do I buy one?? (Northstar makes New*old* fridges.. pretty high price tag)
-check craigslist
-Auctions/Estate Sales/Flea Markets
3.What to do in the meantime?? (Not sure this will be the best bet if I want to sell my old one, who knows someone may buy it quicker DIY'd but I saw a great DIY on pinterest from The Old Painted Cottage and they share how they added bead board and barn handles.. check them out because I am loving their curious finds they have for sale!)

Know a great resource for old fridge's?? Please share :) Would love to see other pictures of functional vintage fridges in your home!

I have been absent from the blogging world.. I was not present for very long and already I was gone.. I have now however embarked on a whole different world of adventures.. I bought my first home out of my hometown of Chapel Hill, NC which is amazing and diverse and am now embarking on a old mill house from 1900 in a Mill Town in Burlington, NC.

It is by the river and therefore along the way I can set my soul at ease through walks by the river.

I will be attempting to give new life to this house while maintaining it's integrity as well as starting at 3/4 acre garden :) I have a wide open canvas and I'm already at three successful garden beds. Until I can share more of my adventure along the way-- finding things to do in a small town, taking back roads to find magical places and the great joy of gardening :)-- Here are some images that have been inspiring me :)

                                                                Pick Wildflowers

                                                                      Dirt Roads

                                                                    Perfect Light

So excited for all to come.. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend-- I am going stand-up paddle boarding for the first time and I will tell you all about when I return!

What's something fun you would love to try??

A little Glam on Monday :)

Around here the sun is shining and for February it is really not that chilly so I couldn't be happier :)

If you have the opportunity to make it to the Movies and need a pick me up from a stressful day, why not de-stress and go see a silent movie about silent movies? I know, I was sceptical at first but -
The Artist
had amazing reviews and was playing at a fabulous local theater that has delicious snacks and oh yes drinks :)
I cannot say how fabulous and brilliant this movie was and how perfect if you want to come out dancing :) Give it a shot!

Here are some Artist-esque inspirations of old hollywood glamour from a Fab Etsy Store :)

Sharing on Sunday :)

With Love in the air and the feeling of needing to find the way I would like to use this blog, I've decided to focus on sharing something that makes me happy on Sundays :) I've been reading great blogs that have been sharing things they love and I figured what better day..

Pecans
A Southern staple in my opinion and I love to stumble upon a pecan tree and hope to one day live somewhere with a bunch of great big pecan trees in my yard..

*Trader Joes has amazing Pecan Cookies which I just discovered today! They are called Southern Style Pecan Cookies. I will probably eat them all today.. I will try not to.
*At my local farmers market there is a man I call the Pecan man.. and he makes these fabulous little treats I call Chewies, therefor he is also the chewies man.  They are some sort of Pecan/Blondie deliciousness and I LOVE them

Here are some things I would love to make :)

Might I say, this recipe calls for No Yeast and also says easy.. front of the Maple on their blog.. this sounds like a winner and what a fabulous picture!
- P.S any blog that says healthy and indulgent is something to follow for me :)

So there you have it, any delicious recipes to share with Pecans?
